Competitions & General Play
A guide to playing golf using the newly introduced World Handicapping System.
We are now using the new World handicap System, which is organised in a different way to what we have become used to over the years.
Your handicap is based on the average of your best 8 scores out of your last 20, and there are more options to play rounds which can affect your handicap.
You now have 3 OPTIONS when you go to play a round of golf.
You should CHOOSE ONLY ONE OPTION:
The World Handicapping System encourages you to play "counting rounds" so that your Handicap Index will be a truer reflection of your ability.
The system relies on the integrity of the players who MUST pre-enter AND return your score (good or bad) each time you play a counting round.
All General Play scorecards that are pre-registered or on the App must be returned to the Handicap Committee.
General Play rounds for Handicap must only be played outside of the allocated competition time sheet.
(A player who fails to enter an Acceptable Score Competition in the required manner, apart from Entry Fee, is considered to have neither a score for the competition nor a score for handicap purposes).
If a player does not use the Golf Ireland App and the computer terminal is not available, a book or other acceptable means (e.g. general play pre-registration form), will be provided to allow a player record their intention to submit a General Play Score.
OPTION 1
Playing in an 18-Hole COMPETITION which is set up on the Club Computer.
• Type in your Golf Ireland Number (e.g. 3119 . . . . or 6119 . . . .e g) BEFORE you play (in the Pro Shop)
• Choose the Competition which is already set up for that day
• The Computer will give you your COURSE HANDICAP for the day (You MUST put this on your CARD)
• Your Playing Handicap (Singles: 95%) will be used for the Competition ONLY (You should include this on the Card also)
• Enter your Scores when you come in and Return Your Card (This is MANDATORY with the New System)
• Your score will be sent automatically to the WHS and your handicap re-calculated
OPTION 2
Using the Golf Ireland App to record a GENERAL PLAY Round
(If you and your marker have downloaded the App)
• Register your intention to play by CREATING A SCORECARD on the Golf Ireland App (make your intention known by contacting the Pro Shop or messaging a member of the Hcp committee)
• Select the Club (Wicklow), Tees and Course (18-Holes or 9-Holes) - This will download an Electronic Card
• After your round agree your Score with your marker
• Type in your Scores on the App, Sign Your e-Card (digitally) and Enter your Marker's Golf Ireland Number
• Return your Card to the Competition Box
• Your marker will get a message from Golf Ireland to confirm your score, and your score will then be official
• Your handicap will be automatically re-calculated
OPTION 3
Playing a Casual/Practice round of golf
• Enjoy Your Round !!!!
