The 81st Masters takes place at the Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia, commencing on 6th April, 2017. The prize fund is $10 million with the winner taking a cool $1.8 million. Some 40,000 patrons will attend the event each day, and a 4-day pass costs just $8500.

At Wicklow Golf Club, we will have all the play live on our new big screen, and our patrons can enjoy all the action with free finger food on the Saturday and Sunday evenings.

In addition, we have two competitions on offer for members –

Bar Manager Tom Vickers is taking entries for his ‘Masters Sweep’. Entries cost €5 at the Bar, and each entrant will draw a Masters competitor. Prizes will be awarded for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd places plus a prize for the member in the Clubhouse on Sunday night with the highest finisher in the field. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Our Professional Enda is running a very interesting ‘Buy a Pro’ competition where members who will be playing in the Sunday competition on Masters Sunday can enter and draw a Masters Professional as their ‘partner’ for the day. The combined V Par scores of the Masters competitor plus the member in the Sunday competition, will determine the prize winners. Prizes of credit for Enda’s Professional Shop will be awarded for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd places.

Based on 100 entrants in each competition, we expect the top prize in each event to be approximately €250 (and pro-rata if numbers are lower).

After the first leg defeat away to Balbriggan (7-2), Wicklow faced a monumental task of trying to win the Provincial Towns Cup for 2016. The 2nd leg of the final took place at home on Saturday, 20th of August. Both teams would face arduous conditions with high winds testing the skills of all the players.

Whilst there were several close matches out on the course during the day, Wicklow fought hard to try and edge back the deficit after leg 1. One crucial match went onto the 19th after 18 holes couldn't determine a winner but Jonathan O'Neill was able to to emerge victorious and added another point to Wicklow's tally. In the end, Wicklow's dogged determination saw them win every match and come away with a 9-0 victory over Balbriggan.

It was noted by the Captains of both Wicklow and Balbriggan on how the final was conducted with the highest level of sportsmanship and courtesy shown by all players and whilst it wasn't the result that Balbriggan had hoped for, they can be proud of how they represented their club.

Wicklow Golf Club would like to extend a huge congratulations and thanks to our entire team, substitutes, caddys and team manager David Delaney assisted by Pat Dunne and also to the massive amount of supporters that turned out on the day to see Wicklow be crowned Provincial Towns Cup champions for 2016.
